APSACS bags two prizes in National Red Run

Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh State AIDS Control Society (APSACS) bagged two national-level prizes in the transgender category during the Red Run. G. Ramesh, a B.Sc student from SSBN College in Anantapur, clinched the first prize, while E. Satya Narayana Naik from Government College in Gummalaxmi Puram, Parvathi Puram district, secured the second prize at the National Red Run event held in Goa.

The awards were presented by Chief Minister of Goa Dr. Pramod Sawanth and the guest of honour Goa’s health minister Vishwajit P. Rane along with Union minister of state for Tourism and Ports, Shipping, and Waterways  Shripad Naik. The event was graced by the presence of APSACS project director Dr. S.B. Rajendra Kumar, APSACS joint director Dr. Kameswara Prasad and WHO consultant Sukumar.

The National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO), under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, in collaboration with the Goa State AIDS Control Society, hosted the vibrant National Red Run 2023. The event, held at the Sports Authority of Goa (SAG) Ground in Bambolim, witnessed a surge of enthusiasm and solidarity in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Noteworthy was the participation of individuals from the Andhra Pradesh State AIDS Control Society, who emerged victorious in their state-level event on September 30. Competing across three categories - boys, girls and transgender - participants aged 17 to 25 showcased their spirit.

APSACS officials congratulated the two winners, emphasizing that the National Red Run 2023 not only demonstrated the unwavering commitment of the Andhra Pradesh State AIDS Control Society in combating HIV/AIDS, but also celebrated the unity of states across India in this crucial endeavour.
