Kerala High Court adjourns V A Zakir Hussain bail plea
Custodial interrogation is a must, submits the investigative officer
Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Thursday adjourned the anticipatory bail application of CPM leader Zakir Hussain, an accused in abducting a Kochi-based businessman. The court posted the case to Monday for detailed hearing. The investigating officer submitted that custodial interrogation of Zakir Hussain was needed and urged the court to reject his anticipatory bail plea. Zakir moved the High Court after the Ernakulam Principal Sessions Court dismissed his plea.
The police took the stand that the former Kalamassery area secretary was involved in 13 criminal cases registered in several police stations in the district. The CPM removed him from the post after the allegations surfaced and the police registered an FIR. The police claim that Zakir went absconding soon after the FIR was lodged on October 19.
Meanwhile, the probe team was reconstituted and an Assistant Commissioner of Police is probing the case. The Palarivattom police registered case against Zakir Hussain after Jube Paulose from Vennala filed a complaint alleging that Hussain had threatened him demanding to withdraw from a business deal with Sheela Thomas, a native of Kakkanad.
