Kerala: Wait to get Rs 2,000 notes from ATM

One can withdraw only Rs 2,000 a day from the ATM and hence there will not be any shortage of currency.

KOZHIKODE: The  ATMs will not dispense the new 2,000-rupee notes from Friday as the banks are yet to reset the software in the machines.   Though the government had announced that  the new currencies would be available through ATMs from Friday, the officials of several banks said they were yet to get the experts to upgrade the software.  However, 100-rupee notes will be available.

A  senior official of the State Bank of Travancore, Koyilandy,  said, “the new   500,  1,000 and  2,000 currency notes with high security feature will initially be available at branches from Thursday.  But only after a week they will be stocked  in the ATMs.”  The  people will get 100-rupee and even 50-rupee notes from the machines, he said.    One can withdraw only Rs 2,000 a day from the ATM  and hence there will not be  any shortage of currency. All denominations of currency  will be reintroduced with enhanced security features in the coming months, he said.
