Kochi: A non-resident  Keralite  offered ‘pushpanjali’  at Ponnarikulam Sree Vana Durga temple at Pampadi,  Kottayam, for the speedy recovery of  Union External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, who underwent a successful kidney transplant surgery on Saturday evening. Ms Sushma Swaraj is a favourite among Indian expats for her interventions in their affairs. Mr Abhilash, a Kottay-am native,  offered  the prayers on the request of his friend Phinu Mathew settled in Australia. “Last night he called me from Australia and asked me to do a vazhipadu for the good health and speedy recovery of Sushma,” Mr Abhilash said.

“Being an NRI, my friend keenly follows the activities of the external affairs minister. Her recent interventions in the affairs of expats in Middle East came to his attention and he became her fan,” said Mr Abhilash, a former journalist. “When she was hospitalised,  several persons offered their kidneys for her.  Even when she was in the hospital,  she helped many,” said Mr Abhilash  who  himself had saved a person with the help of Sushma.  Mr Abhilash, who has been bedridden for the past five years, sought  Ms Sushma's help through Twitter.
