US team in Kerala to study education system
Visits HHMSBP NSS College for Women in capital as part of research.
Thiruvananthapuram: A team of teachers and students from the Steinhardt Institute for Higher Education Policy, New York University (NYU) as part of their research on the higher education system in the country visited the HHMSBP NSS College for Women, Neeramankara, Thiruvananthapuram, on Tuesday. The team was led by Ann L Marcus, professor and director, and Teboho Moja, programme director.
Head of the Department of English, HHMSBP NSS College, Sreedevi K Nair told Deccan Chronicle that the education system of Kerala was part of their curriculum. The English department was the host for the programme. “I welcomed the team to the session and spoke of the historical background of the Indian education system.
This was followed by presentations by faculty members of the department, Lakshmi Menon, Asha Prabhakaran and Aswathy A. They introduced Kerala, its culture, and its education system from the academic and administrative perspectives. Gayatri Krishnan, final year B.Com student, and Haripriya R J Nair of first year MA English, also made presentations about their experiences at school and college,” said Ms Nair.
The introductory session was followed by an interactive one where the team from NYU formed groups to interact with the students of the college to get first-hand information about their experiences within the educational system. The event wrapped up with a lunch in traditional Kerala style, said Mr Nair.
