MAHBUBABAD: Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao announced on Thursday that the BRS government would establish a government engineering college in Mahbubabad district starting next academic year, while announcing funds for the development of the most backward and drought-prone district in the state.

After the inauguration of the integrated collectorate complex, the CM sanctioned `50 crore to Mahbubabad for development, `25 crore to municipalities in the district, and `10 lakh to each gram panchayat.

There were just three medical colleges in the Telangana region when the state was bifurcated from unified Andhra Pradesh. The BRS government now plans to establish 33 medical colleges, one in each district, he said.

The CM stated that farmers and people in general had suffered immensely in the past, particularly in the Mahbubabad, Wardhannapet, and Palakurthy regions, but things were gradually improving with the initiatives of the government.

Prior to the formation of Telangana, the state's GDP was `5 lakh crore and it had now reached `11.54 lakh crore. “The state government has suffered a loss of `3 lakh crore as a result of the Central government's lack of cooperation,” he noted.

He added that due to the ineptitude of the Centre, the Krishna river water sharing conflict between the riparian states had remained unresolved after 19 years.  Despite the fact that there is enough water in the rivers, farmers do not have access to it.

People in Karnataka and Maharashtra continue to experience considerable hardships as a result of a lack of drinking water. By building the Kaleshwaram project, the Telangana government was able to provide water to farmers, he stated.

The CM assured that Nukala Ramchandra Reddy, a Mahbubabad native and former prime minister P.V.Narasimha Rao's teacher, will be recognised by the state government and honoured appropriately in the coming days.
