Hyderabad: Justice Surepalli Nanda of the Telangana High Court on Thursday reserved verdict in the petitions on the release of Ram Gopal Varma’s ‘Vyooham’ movie, which is reportedly based on the political situation in Andhra Pradesh.

The court said that orders would be pronounced on January 22 till which time the movie cannot be released.

The film’s release was stopped as the High Court suspended the clearance certificate issued by Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), on a plea filed by TD leader Nara Lokesh, who complained that there were procedural irregularities in the certification process with the potential defamation of former chief minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.

The film producer filed an appeal challenging the suspension orders. These two versions were heard by Justice Surepalli Nanda for three days, who on Thursday reserved the orders.

Counsel of the Telugu Desam argued that the film was based on overt political implications intended to defame the Opposition party in AP.

Senior counsel A. Venkatesh, representing the producer, submitted that the opponents were trying to stop the film’s release from  October last.

Based on earlier orders of the High Court, the nine-member committee of CBFC watched the film and issued the censor certificate. But, the opponents approached the High Court seeking to quash the censor certificate.
