AIADMK sacks arrested party functionary

CHENNAI: Following the outrage on social media, A. Nagaraj, local Amma Peravai functionary,who threatened sexual assault victim’s brother in Pollachi, was removed from all party posts by the AIADMK on Monday.

“A. Nagaraj is being terminated from all posts including that of primary membership of the party for behaving in a manner which would bring disrepute to the party,” AIADMK said in a statement on Monday.

AIADMK coordinator and deputy chief minister O. Panneerselvam and joint coordinator and chief minister Edappadi K. Palanisami said that the action was initiated against Nagaraj who acted in a manner that is contradictory to the party's principles and discipline. He was arrested by Pollachi police for allegedly threatening a girl's brother in relation to the sexual abuse of his sister. It seems that Thirunavukkarasu and Sabarirajan befriended his sister through Facebook   In the guise of meeting his friends, Sabarirajan took her in his car on February 12.    

Along with their friends, Sabarirajan and Thirunavukkarasu sexually assaulted her in the car. They also videographed and took pictures of her.

After some days they began to threaten her that if she does not give them money, her video will be uploaded on the internet. She narrated this incident to her brother who confronted Thirunavukkarasu.

“After the fight, Nagaraj came to Thirunavukkarasu’s defence, threatened and assaulted the girl’s brother*,” police said.

He then filed a complaint with the police against four persons who threatened him. The police arrested Senthil, Babu, Mani and Vasanthakumar and booked them under various sections including sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (2) (criminal intimidation) of the IPC.

Pollachi police officials said that Nagaraj’s name was later added to the FIR and was arrested by the police.
