Kattachira suicide case: Crime Branch to probe suicide bid by student

The college management and the BJP have condemned the attack saying that it was politically motivated.

ALAPPUZHA: The Crime Branch police will  investigate the suicide attempt made by a  student  of   Sri Vellappally Natesan College of Engineering, Kattachira near Mavelikkara, and the SFI attack on the college.   Alappuzha  special branch DySP K.H. Muhammed Kabeer Rawther  said that they had handed over a report  to the Ernakulam range IG about the suicide attempt,  the  SFI attack on the college and  the  police action.

The college management and the BJP have condemned the attack saying that it was  politically motivated. BJP state general secretary A.N. Radhakrishnan alleged that the attack showed the CPM enmity towards the BDJS. The SNDP  yogam organised a protest meet  in front of the college on Tuesday against the violence.  Though the police have registered  cases against 300 SFI  workers,  none has been  arrested.    Arsh Raj, 20, second-year B Tech mechanical engineering student  had  tried to commit suicide after he was allegedly scolded by  the principal.
