Kozhikode: Plastic waste can lead to the destruction of agriculture  with  the increase in the  pest population, according to environment worker Satheesh Babu Kolambath.  Speaking at a  seminar on ‘Environment and development’ at Kozhikode Beach on Friday,  he said plastics left out under 40 degrees temperature for two  days can cause huge harm to environment. These consequences are not mentioned in the  environment protection agreements all over India,  he said.  The increase in heat and plastic waste  can  adversely affect agriculture.

Real development is bringing change to our environment, he said.  The government missions such as ‘Haritha Keralam,’  ‘Aardhram’ and ‘LIFE’ aim at improving the lot of the poor,  he added. “Less than half-an-hour is required to clean one’s surroundings which can make our premises waste- free. There  should be a collective move to make  the district waste-free,”  said Nirav Vengeri member  Babu Parambath.   Also present were  members E.P Rathnakaran, C.K Vijayakumar and  P.M.  Suryan.
