Thiruvananthapuram: DGP Loknath Behera will be in Dubai May 18-20 to learn the functioning of hi-tech police stations in that emirate.

Palakkad KAPII Battal-ion commandant Debesh Kumar Behera will accompany him.

The travel aims at studying technical aspects of automated police stations.

Earlier, the scheduled date of the tour was from March 19 to 21. However, the general elections delayed it.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who during a four-day visit to UAE to attend the first regional summit of the Loka Kerala Sabha (LKS) West Asian Meet in February, was impressed with the Dubai model smart police stations that look like ATM kiosks.

He had expressed his desire to set up such stations in the state and directed his police chief to visit Dubai.

In such police stations in Dubai, one can voice their requests in five languages. People will also be able to talk with any police officer though calls recorded at the headquarters.

Smart stations will be operational 24x7. World’s first fully operational digital smart police station is in Jumeirah, Dubai

Dubai Police promised all assistance for starting smart stations in the state and sent an expert to study the technical possibility of including Malayalam.

These stations offer services, including reporting of crimes, traffic incidents and community services.

Kerala Cyberdome had also decided to cooperate with Dubai police on cybersecurity and reached an understanding on exchanging criminals on social media in March following a spurt in such activities on Facebook and WhatsApp.

They have also sought cooperation in the field of cyber intelligence, artificial intelligence and cybercrime software development.
