Waterlogging between Hydernagar and JNTU junction has doubled the average travel time for people to commute from Patancheru to Koti and Secunderabad.

Hyderabad: Last year, the municipal administration minister K.T. Rama Rao directed officials from the greater hyderabad municipal corporation to resolve certain waterlogging spots in the IT corridor following heavy traffic jams during rains. Despite this there have been no development works taken up and the problem has re-surfaced with the recent rains.

The waterlogging points from Hyder Nagar to JNTU junction on Mum-bai Highway has increased the delays in the average travel time from Pata-ncheru to Koti and Secunderabad corridors from 2 hours to 4 hours. During peak hours, the slowdown of traffic at the 2 kilometer stretch between JNTU and Hyder Nagar is showing a severe impact on even Balanagar, Bowenpally, Secunderabad, Panja-gutta, Lakdikapul, Namp-ally, Koti and Dilsukhn-agar.

Last year, the Cyberabad traffic police wing wrote a letter to the GHMC along with a list of 27 major water logging points in Gachibowli, Hitech City, Kondapur, Madhapur, Miyapur and Kukatpally areas, of which the GHMC neglected 7 major points and the work at the remaining points have now reached a similar situation.
Besides the existing major waterlogging points, nearly 10 more have been introduced by the negligence of various departments like Water Board and Mission Bhagiratha.

Techies are suffering while travelling through Raghavendra Colony, Shilparamam, COD in Madhapur, Ayyappa Society junction, 100-feet road in Madhapur, Wipro Junction, Kukatpally Y-Junction and at Hyder Nagar, due to heavy waterlogging points.

Kukatpally traffic ACP Mr Ashok Pagadala said that the traffic wing sent proposals to the GHMC last year to take up works to clear waterlogging points in the IT corridor. “The GHMC responded positively earlier, but, due to the new projects taken up by the Water Board and Mission Bhagiratha, led to new waterlogging points. We have been requesting the GHMC to take immediate action,” he said.

An official from the GHMC said that the department has already formed emergency response teams. “We have cleared maximum waterlogging points in the IT corridor. Other works like pipeline, road cuttings, cables etc., are leading to new waterlogging points,” the official said.
