Thrissur: Kerala Agricultural University (KAU) has drawn up a plan to aid promotion of upland paddy farming in the state to enhance production. It will join hands with the department of agriculture to popularise upland farming and provide technical support for the initiative. Dr S. Estellita, KAU director of extension, said that the university had already experimented and formulated scientific protocols for the same.

“We have developed varieties suited for hill farming and support mechanisms including mechanisation. The strategies have been successfully tested in farm trials and farmers' fields. Upland farming will succeed only if scientific practices support it,” she noted. The first of such training programmes will be held at Communication Centre, Mannuthy on July 14. Farmers can contact:  (0487 2370773) or mail ccmanuthy@kau.in.
