Kochi: 3,166 beneficaries listed for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana
The list will be submitted to the State government's approval committee.
KOCHI: A special session of the city corporation council has finalised the first list of beneficiaries for the Union government-funded housing scheme for the urban poor – Pradhan Mantri Avas Yojana. A presentation on the project was made by corporation’s deputy manager of social development Sunil Abraham based on which councillors raised their suggestions.
The Rs 94.98 crore project envisages affordable housing for the urban poor under which Rs 3 lakh will be provided to construct houses with an area of 320 sq. ft for the economically weaker sections. The built up area can be enhanced up to 640 sq. ft if the beneficiary is willing to bear the additional expense. The scheme is for those who have own land.
The council meeting finalised the first list of 3,166 beneficiaries who have been selected by a division level committee through a survey. Of the Rs 3 lakh, the Centre will provide Rs 1.50 lakh, Rs 50, 000 by the State government, Rs 50, 000 as ULB share and remaining Rs 50, 000 as beneficiary share. For the scheduled cast, the beneficiary share is Rs 30, 000 while it is Rs 24, 000 for the scheduled tribe. The list will be submitted to the State government’s approval committee.
