Chennai: Auto driver killed by reversing truck

Chennai: A 36-year-old man, an autorickshaw driver, was killed after a reversing truck ran over him near Alandur on Tuesday morning.

The deceased, Muthu, is a resident of housing board quarters in Avadi. On Monday night, he had come to Alandur to drop a customer and had stayed there for the night. He had parked his vehicle near the post office and was sleeping near the bus stop. Around 5 am, the truck driver who was reversing his vehicle failed to notice the man sleeping and ran over him, killing him on the spot.

Passerby alerted the police following which a team moved the body to Chromepet Government Hospital for autopsy. The truck driver, Vijayaraghavan (46) of Villupuram was arrested.
