Kozhikode: E.A. Jabbar, the state committee member of the Yukthivadi Sangham, has received murder threats through a blog with suspected IS links. The appeared in the Malayalam blog mujahir2015.wordpress.com, which is not functional now, and the same was mentioned in the communication of one of the youth disappeared from Kasargod. Following the threat, Mr Jabbar, who used to engage in public debates with fundamentalists, has sought police protection and a detailed probe.

“The blog has my name saying that I am deliberately insulting Muslims and their prophet hence I should be killed,” said E.A Jabbar, a retired schoolteacher and author of seeral books criticising Islam. Special investigation team probing the disappearance of 17 youth from Kasargod had found the reference to the blog in communication from Mohammad Ashfaq, one of the missing people, to his parents. “You should get a correct understanding of Islam by reading the blog,” said Ashfaq in one of his messages.

The blog was advocating Indian Muslims to cease living in the land of kufr or disbelief and come to the caliphate which the IS has established in Syria. “The government and the public society should awake to the death threat. The murder of Chekannur Maulavi (a progressive Muslim scholar abducted and killed in 1993) and the hand chopping of Prof Joseph should not repeat,” said the rationalist group leaders V.P. Alavikutty and C.J. Jayaprakash in a press release.
The same blog also contains remarks against ‘freethinkers’, a group of independent thinkers on Facebook. Mr Jabbar has brought the issue to the notice of the chief minister and the state police chief.
