Walkway at Vytilla Metro station
A provision for it has been made in the design for the Rs 368 crore second phase project.
Kochi: An eight-meter high walkway will be constructed from the Vytilla Mobility Hub Metro station connecting other modes of traffic in the integrated transit terminal such as City bus service and boat service bays. “The hub facilitates a commuter arriving by metro to change to other modes of transport – bus and boat service. We are constructing a walkway to facilitate commuters to reach the bus bays and boat station in the hub without getting down and crossing the runway,” said a senior Mobility Hub official.
A provision for it has been made in the design for the Rs 368 crore second phase project. “We have included the same as a condition when the tenders were floated last time, but it did not materialise and a new government took office". The condition of constructing a walkway will have to be implemented. A meet would be held after August 15 to select a new executive committee which would decide how to carry out the second phase works,” the official said.
While the chief minister is the Governing Body Chairman, the Executive Committee usually includes at least 10 officials from all stakeholders including the Kochi Corporation, the Collector, the GCDA Chairman and the like. “This time, there will be a representative from the Kochi Metro Rail Ltd since the Vytilla metro station is coming up inside the Hub,” he said.
