KANNUR: The CPM  on Friday rubbished the reports that Mattannur municipality chairman K. Bhaskaran, who is the husband of Health Minister K.K. Shailaja, had slapped a Dalit woman  during the recent municipal elections. District secretary P. Jayarajan said here on Friday that those  who published the fake news will  face legal action. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan also told the Assembly  that the reports were baseless.

The alleged incident took place in Perinchery booth regarding  open vote.  Sheela Rajan,  booth agent  and DYFI leader,  entered into a verbal clash with the polling officer and Mr Bhaskaran allegedly took sides with the officer and slapped her. She  complained to  district and state leaders but they ignored  it.  Then she  raised it at the national level. However, no police complaint was registered and the CPM leaders said the allegation was raised to  diminish the LDF’s  victory in the municipal election.  The LDF secured  28 seats against seven won by the UDF.
