THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Friday said there was no complaint against Mattannur municipal chairman K. Bhaskaran on beating Dalit woman. Mr Bhaskaran is the husband of Health minister K. K. Shailaja. Mr Vijayan said that police had not received any complaints in this regard. “The Opposition was trying to make this an issue to cast a shadow on the stupendous victory of LDF in Mattannur,” the chief minister said in Assembly while replying to a submission by opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala on Friday.

There were reports that the central leadership of the CPM had instructed the state leadership to take immediate action against Shailaja’s husband Bhaskaran in the light of the complaint that he had beat Sheela Rajan, a former Mattannur corporation member and party’s booth agent during the recent polls. Meanwhile, at a press conference here Shailaja said that the allegations against her were baseless.

“We are planning to take legal action against those behind the mischievous report. The girl and their family are close to us and they are party members. The assault story has been fabricated to tarnish the party in the wake of the historic win in Mattanur municipality,” he added. There is a clear attempt to target the CPM leaders. “We will take appropriate action against such malicious and baseless reports,” she added. Ms Shailaja ruled out conspiracy within the party saying that the opposition had been completely decimated by the LDF.
