BENGALURU: Nine persons including senior officials of Quality Control sustained burn injuries and four of them seriously in a major fire incident which broke out at Quality Control Laboratory and Office inside Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike in Bengaluru city on Friday evening before police and fire force personnel extinguished the spread of fire.

After spot inspection, Additional Commissioner East Sateesh Kumar told reporters that tests were conducted at the quality control lab using chemicals and a hot air oven blasted out of three ovens inside the lab and the blast is suspected to have led to the fire breaking out inside the laboratory. Sources said the personnel upon noticing fire managed to close the doors of the record room before it spread to the neighbouring parts. People who had gathered at the site tried to douse the fire with water and police personnel shifted the injured to a hospital. The injured were administered first aid by the personnel and shifted them to Victoria Hospital in the city.
