HYDERABAD: IT minister K.T. Rama Rao on Saturday announced that the Group II recruitment examination had been postponed, following intense protests and the Telangana High Court taking up the matter.

He took to X (formerly Twitter) to say that Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao had directed Chief Secretary A. Santhi Kumari to consult with the TS Public Service Commission and reschedule the exam to ensure that the nearly 5.5 lakh aspirants are not put to inconvenience. The applicants said they faced other exams in the same timeframe.

"The CM has also advised the Chief Secretary to ensure proper staggering of the recruitment notifications in future so that every aspirant gets adequate time to prepare for all eligible exams," Rama Rao said in a tweet on Saturday night.

The exams were originally scheduled on August 29 and 30 but aspirants took to the streets earlier this week demanding that it be postponed as they wouldn't have enough time to prepare for the same, given that a few other competitive exams were scheduled during the month.

They had approached the Telangana High Court which granted time to TSPSC until Monday, August 14, to respond on the issue of the postponement of the Group II examinations.

The petitioners asked for the exams to be held after the Gurukula Teacher Exams, Polytechnic Exams, and J.L. Exams. More than 5.5 lakh students across the state are to take this exam.

Even as they await suitable dates for the exams, aspirants expressed joy and thanked the minister on social media for the decision.
