Vellore: Miscreants hurled petrol bombs at the house of Mahesh, a Hindu Munnani zonal treasurer in Sathuvachari and also at the private transport bus belonging to another party member, Srinivasan in Sankaranpalayam, here on Sunday.

According to the Sathuvachari police, Mahesh’s family members who were fast asleep sensed petrol smell outside their house. They came out of the house and found that a petrol bomb that had been hurled at the house was found strewn on the ground and the petrol was oozing out.

Mahesh, who had been receiving anonymous threat calls, after the murder of their party member Vellaiyan two years ago, immediately sought the help of Sathuvachari police on seeing the bomb.

A team of police officials arrived at his house and removed three more petrol bombs thrown on the ceiling of the front portion of the house. Forensic officials Pari, DSP Arogyam and inspectors Ramachandran and Nagaraj traced out three un-exploded bombs that were found wrapped in a polythene bag containing the name of a local cloth merchant’s shop.

In the second incident, miscreants hurled a petrol-bomb at a private transport bus, owned by another Hindu Munnani party member Srinivasan.

The public extinguished the fire before the bus could be incinerated completely. Since, the incidents took place at two different places, the police suspect that the crimes were aimed against the Hindu outfit and a case has been registered.

Meanwhile, members of the Hindu Munnani and its affiliated political parties organised a procession from Mahesh’s residence to Arcot road, near the district collectorate. The party members demanded the immediate arrest of the persons behind the crime.
