Transport tops Kozhikode master plan
The city had a master plan 36 years back, prepared by the Calicut Development Authority (CDA) in 1980, which expired in 2011.
KOZHIKODE: Local administration minister K.T. Jaleel on Sunday released the draft of Kozhikode urban area master plan 2015-2035 at a function held at Town Hall here. He handed over its copy to Beypore MLA and former mayor V.K.C. Mammed Koya. Prepared by the joint town planning committee, it envisages the comprehensive development of 177.09 square kilometre area of Kozhikode Municipal Corporation and nearby Feroke and Ramanattukara municipalities and Olavanna and Kadalundi grama panchayats.
The city had a master plan 36 years back, prepared by the Calicut Development Authority (CDA) in 1980, which expired in 2011. The draft plan gives importance to strengthening the existing transport network, efficient linking of transportation terminals of various modes and efficient disaster management. The new plan prepared after gauging of opinion from elected representatives and people from various walks of life through series of discussions. The regional town planning department will open desks at offices of the corporation, municipalities and panchayats for the public to make suggestions.
The five dedicated high-speed bus routes include Mobility hub- Malaparamba- Moozhikkal-Kunnamangalam. 2. Mobility hub- Thondayad-Medical College, Mobility hub- Thondayad Ramanattukara- Airport, Mobility hub- Malaparamba- Eranhipalam- Nadakkavu- Palayam - Railway station and Railway station - Cherooty Road- Gandhi Road Nadakkavu- Mobility hub. Mayor Thottathil Raveendran presided over the function. Minister A.K Saseendran inaugurated an exhibition conducted as its part.
