Border Security Force to hold Run for Martyrs' to raise funds

THIRSSUR: The Border Security Force  will  hold  a mini- marathon and five-km race named ‘Run for Martyrs’ in  200 locations across the country to raise funds for the families of around 2,000 BSF jawans who laid down their lives in the line of duty since its inception in 1965. The event will be held on October 22 as a part of observing BSF Martyrs’ Day. The BSF battalion in Kainoor here, the only one  stationed in the state, will  hold  the state-level marathon in Thrissur on the same day in which three separate marathons will be held in Thrissur town.

The battalion here plans  to raise Rs 20 lakh from the marathon.  The proceeds of the event will be sent to the BSF headquarters in Delhi for distribution among the martyrs’ families. “The half marathon will cover 21 km  and there will be  shorter separate races for children (aged between 12 and 16 years) and adults (above 16 years) covering five km  named ‘Run for Martyrs’. The  fee of mini-marathon is Rs 750 and mainly professional runners will take  part in the race. For the shorter race,  the fees are Rs 350 (for adults) and Rs 300.  All participants will be given a kit with T-shirt and a cap.  

Those completing the race within a specific time will be given certificates and medals as well, battalion commandant in Thrissur unit, V.  Ajith Kumar V said. In the mini marathons, there will be cash awards in male and female categories for first, second and third positions, he added. Further details are available on www.marathonbsfthrissur.in.
