Hyderabad: Under-construction shed collapses, 2 dead, 2 injured
The structure was being constructed for a DWCRA exhibition.
Hyderabad: A shed that was being constructed near IMAX theatre collapsed on Monday, killing two and injuring two more. The dead were identified as Prasad from Uttar Pradesh and Saleem from Kalapather in Hyderabad. Those injured are Fakruddin and Azhar, both from Madhya Pradesh. They were shifted to Osmania General Hospital where their condition is stable.
Explaining the probable reason for the shed’s collapse, police said the poles were erected on loose soil, making the structure inherently unstable. The structure was being constructed for a DWCRA exhibition. The police said work began around three da-ys ago by Yousuf & Co, who was assigned the work. Based on a complaint from Mohd Omar, Saleem’s uncle, a case of negligence under Sec-tion 304A of IPC was booked against Yousuf & Co.
We will act against the contractor, declares SERP
The Society for Elimination of Poverty (SERP), the organiser of DWCRA exhibition, said that it will examine investigation report before taking action against the contractor. Contractor Yousuf & Co was hired by SERP for the construction of the collapsed shed. “The exhibition was planned after three days. We will check for negligence on the part of contractor and examine the police investigation before initiating action,” director P. Venkatesham said, adding that they have not taken possession of the shed. The fair was being organised by SERP to give opportunities for DWCRA women to exhibit their products in the capital.
