Massive green drive to be taken up in Vijayawada

VIJAYAWADA: The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation will plant saplings on both sides of roads as part of the city beautification plan. Speaking at a teleconference with municipal commissioner and officials on carrying out green drive in the city as part of the beautification under the Pachala Haram, he said that a pleasant environment with greenery on both sides of the roads should be created on the Vijayawada city roads which would beautify the city and further protect the environment.

Dilli Rao said that at least 100 plants on both sides of the four sides of the roads approaching the city from other areas should be preserved.

He instructed that attractive flowering plants like Lager Stomia, Bahunia, Cassia Fistula, Jacaranda Avenue and besides attractive flowers of different colours by growing ornamental bamboo, champaka, royal farm, bootia and cherry trees should be considered for planting. He said that more attractive plants should be planted on the right hand side of the national highway at the beginning of the approach to the city from Kanakadurgamma Varadhi (Bridge) so that people who reach the city from different areas will get a green welcome.

Dilli Rao said that the saplings should be protected by tree guards. He added that Vijayawada city will become greener by growing beautiful flower plants that will be seen on both sides of the roads throughout the city.
