Hyderabad: Pre-Christmas events, marking the commencement of festivities, began at several locations in the city.
The United Grand Christmas celebrations at police grounds in Yousufguda saw the participation of 187 churches and attracted the participation of ministers K.T. Rama Rao, Talasani Srinivas Yadav and Mohd Mahmood Ali.
Rev Raj Prakash Paul, pastor of The Lord's Church in Bowenpally, said “Thousands of people cherished the message of Christmas and the carols.”
Holy Family Church, Trimulgherry, conducted a carol competition separately for churches and colleges. St Anthony Church, Gandhi Nagar, RK Puram, emerged winners in the church category and received a cash prize of Rs 10,000. Our Lady of Fatima, Damiguda, and St Joseph’s Church, Moulali finished second and third, respectively.
In the college category, St Francis women’s college Begumpet, Loyola Academy Alwal and St Pious X, degree college, Nacharam, finished on top in that order.
Meanwhile, Hope Unlimited Church is gearing up for carol service, slated for December 19 at St Mary’s auditorium in Secunderabad, according to pastor Sumanth Perumalla.
The 43 Greater Hyderabad United Christmas celebration, will be held on December 18 at YMCA Secunderabad. Most of the churches in the Hyderabad region will be taking part. According to committee member J Peter “arrangements are being put in place. Covid protocol will be strictly followed.”
