Sarapaka gram panchayat to be bifurcated into two

Kothagudem: Sarapaka, a major gram panchayat and industrial zone, where a mega ITC company is located near Bhadrachalam, will be divided into two gram panchayats. Officials have sent the file pertaining to the bifurcation to the state government for its approval.

The government had earlier planned to upgrade Sarapaka GP as a municipality, which could not be achieved because of various factors. Elections to the GP were also not held due for varying reasons, against which some persons approached the High Copurt. The court directed the State government to conduct elections by an early date.

Officials have now proposed to divide Sarapaka into two gram panchayats-Saraoaka-1 and Sarapaka-2. The old GP office, Basappa camp, Pullaiah camp, Odia colony, Gandhinagar, Rajivnagar, Vijaynagar, Bhaskarnagar and Chandra Pullareddynagar will be part of Sarapaka-1 while the ITC zone, Sriramapuram, Cinemahall, Conductor colony, May Day colony, Pragathi school, Sundaraiahnagar and Masjid road will form Sarapaka-2.
