Visakhapatnam: Jana Sena public affairs committee chairman Nadendla Manohar was arrested here on Monday during a protest against the closure of the Tycoon Hotel intersection road.

Jana Sena alleged that the stretch from Tycoon Junction to VIP Road has been blocked for over two months due to the construction of a building for YSRC MP, M.V.V. Satyanarayana.

The police stopped Nadendla Manohar, who was staying at the Novotel on Beach Road, from attending the protest at Tycoon Junction. The police said protests were banned at the construction site.

“Even though the JS in the city protested four times on this issue, there was no response from the authorities. Every time we come to Visakhapatnam, we are being detained,” Manohar said.

Murthyadav, a JS corporator, was also detained but later he was allowed to attend the meeting.

The JS registered its protest in the GVMC council meeting too. Its corporators went to the mayor’s podium, raised slogans against the government. They said that, as a result of the closure, the public was forced to travel an extra 2km via a diversion.

JS chief Pawan Kalyan said, “It is undemocratic to arrest our leader Nadendla Manohar. If the government acts like this, I will also land in Visakhapatnam to take up the people's cause.”
