Warangal: The Northern Power Distribution Company Ltd (NPDCL) has been urged to withdraw its decision not to accept power bills from consumers until they paid Additional Consumer Deposit (ACD) charges.

The CPI has urged the company to suspend the collection of ACD charges. The party leaders submitted a representation to the authorities after staging a dharna in front of the NPDCL office in Hanamkonda on Thursday. District convener of the party, Botla Chakrapani, said the state NPDCL has given a shock to the consumers in the power bills issued in January. ACD charges were also included in the power bills.

Last year, the company collected development charges by saying the consumers were using additional load. Many consumers getting the meters of lower loads used more loads, which caused a loss to the company and hence it collected developmental charges, he said.

“People are confused as to who should pay the ACD charges when they take a house on rent -- whether the owner or the tenant,” he said.
