VIJAYAWADA: Former chief secretary of Telangana, Somesh Kumar, who has since been asked to report to Andhra Pradesh cadre, arrived here on Thursday morning and met Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy at Tadepalli for close to one hour.

Stating that he had come to AP on the orders of the Union government, Kumar said that he would perform whatever responsibilities were entrusted to him. On the likelihood of opting for VRS, he said that he has not taken any decision on that front.

Earlier in the day, Kumar, who was transferred to Andhra Pradesh cadre following a Telangana High Court order, met chief secretary K. S. Jawahar Reddy and reported to him.

On reports that he would be working as advisor to Telangana government, he said no decision was taken and nothing has been decided.

According to reliable sources, Kumar had sought a position befitting his chief secretary cadre, but the Chief Minister, who had filled all senior posts in the recent reshuffle, expressed his helplessness in giving him a top position.

Speculations are rife that Somesh Kumar has decided to go on a long leave or apply for VRS. Reportedly, prospects are bright of his being absorbed as chief advisor to Telangana Chief Minister.

Somesh Kumar assumed charge as Telangana chief secretary on December 31, 2019 and was transferred to AP on January 12. He is due to retire on December 30 this year.

The Telangana government on Wednesday appointed Santhi Kumari as Somesh Kumar’s successor.
