3 injured as hotel lift collapses in Hyderabad

Unable to bear the weight, the lift plunged to the ground floor.

Hyderabad: Three women suffered fractures and three others were injured when a lift at the Swagath Grand Hotel at Suchitra Cross-roads plunged to the ground floor from the fifth floor on Friday night. Nearly 10 passengers had entered the lift, police said. A case has been registered against the hotel management.

Police said that the victims had come to the hotel to attend the engagement ceremony of the daughter of Hitech School, Bowenpally, chairman Haragopal on the fifth floor.

The incident occurred when the guests were leaving the hotel. Police said nine women and a 24-year-old youth entered the service lift at the hotel, as the passenger lift was crowded. “Unable to bear the weight, the lift plunged to the ground floor,”said

Petbasheerabad inspector D.V. Rangareddy. Anjan, 24, suffered pel-vic fractures, while two other woman suffered fractures on their ankles. All the injured were rushed to hospital. Based on a complaint from the victims, police registered a case. under IPC section 338 (causing grievous hurt) the hotel management and sealed the lift.
