Dharmapuri: A woman constable stirred up a hornet’s nest on Sunday at the marriage reception of her lover, who according to her had ‘deserted’ the constable for being a ‘Dalit’.

V.Rajeshwari of Bothakadu village in Papireddipatti taluk of Dharmapuri created ruckus at a private marriage hall in Harur town, where the wedding reception of Malar Selvan of Oddaiyanur village of Dharmapuri district was going on. Then Rajeshwari and her relatives resorted to a protest at the entrance of the hall after the groom’s relatives chased them away.

The Harur police, after coming to know about Rajeshwari creating trouble went to the place. She, when questioned, informed the police that she works as constable in Bargur All Women police station. Malarselvan, a constable working in the prohibition enforcement wing, and she had been ‘lovers’, the woman cop further disclosed. Rajeshwari told the police that though they had lived  ‘as husband and wife’ for two-and-half years since 2008 in Krishnagiri, Malar Selvan, a caste Hindu, now refused to marry her as she is a Dalit. She had even complained about him in Krishnagiri police station in September 2012.

A case was registered and the trial in the case was on in the Krishnagiri Sessions court, she disclosed. However, on March 2 this year, Malar Selvan had married one Abhinaya of Hosur and the wedding reception was held on Sunday in a private hall in Harur town. Coming to know of this, an extremely upset Rajeshwari trooped in with her relatives to the marriage hall to stage a protest.
She later withdrew her protest after police promised action if the charges were found to be true.
