Tirunelveli leads in child protection schemes in Tamil Nadu
Devanand explained how police action could be initiated against unregistered homes.
Tirunelveli: Tirunelveli is one of the high scoring districts in implementing the Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS), according to the Tirunelveli district child protection officer Devanand.
He was speaking at a capacity building training programme for Tirunelveli city police here. The training programme attended by around 45 inspector and sub-inspector level police officers, is aimed at sensitizing the police department about the effective implementation of the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015, and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.
Prof Sivakumar of Madurai government Law college regretted the behavior of the police in handling juvenile cases. Devanand explained how police action could be initiated against unregistered homes.
Later speaking to media about the implementation of child welfare schemes in the district, he said that Tirunelveli has been reported as one of the high scoring districts in the state in implementing the integrated child protection schemes (ICPS). He added that they plan to hold awareness programmes for parents and school heads about child welfare legislations.
