THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Congress decided to complete organisational polls in Kerala before October 30. Announcing this in New Delhi, Mullappally Ramachandran MP, chairman of the party's central election authority, said Tamil Nadu Congress leader E. M. Sudarsana Natchiappan would be the returning officer. The AICC had postponed elections twice earlier. However, Mr Ramachandran said there would be no more delaying. When the party requested an extension of the deadline for the mandatory elections, the Supreme Court had granted time until Dec 31.

“Membership distribution will be completed by May 15. Elections right from booth level to AICC president will be held accordingly. Then the plenary session of the party will be held where the new party president’s name would be announced,” he said. Before his meeting with Sonia Gandhi, he also held talks with senior leader A. K. Antony, Congress president’s political secretary Ahmed Patel and AICC organisational general secretary Janardhan Dwivedi. Then a meeting of the panel fixed the dates. He said the election schedule for the booth, mandalam, block, district, state and AICC members would be announced in due course.
