HYDERABAD: Along expected lines, the number of candidates applying for Eamcet 2017 has shown a dip as compared to last year. With Eamcet confined to admissions for agriculture and other streams, registrations from BiPC candidates have dropped significantly. With two days left before the expiry of fee deadline without penalty (April 15), the registrations received by JNTU-Hyderabad, which is conducting the exam, stand at 1.92 lakh. This includes 1.23 lakh for engineering stream and the remaining 69,000  are in the fray for the agriculture test. Of the 2.4 lakh candidates who applied for the state entrance examination last year nearly one lakh were from BiPC stream.

With confusion over the relevance of NEET, the national entrance test, for the two Telugu states, almost all medical aspirants applied for Eamcet-1 that was held in May. V. Kumar, executive dean of Chaitanya Education Institutions, said Eamcet has lost relevance for candidates aiming for medical admissions. “Apart from MBBS and BDS, even Ayush (ayurveda, homeopathy, unani etc) admissions will be done based on the NEET UG score. Understandably, the number of applicants from BiPC stream has decreased. Also, BiPC students from Andhra Pradesh have not applied for TS Eamcet this year,” he said
