Kottayam: The students and teachers of the St Thomas higher secondary school, Pala are thrilled about going to the ‘Samman foundation’ at Patna to know about the organization that is empowering rickshaw pullers and their families to become self reliant and responsible citizens. Four of the students who have completed Plus two from the school, and one Plus one student of the school and three teachers are flying to New Delhi on May 10. The students will interact with the employees of ‘Samman foundation’ attempting to benefit from their experience.

The idea hit them after a few of the students contacted Irfan Alam, the founder of the ‘Samman foundation’ via Facebook after learning about him in their lesson in the English text. The lesson called, ‘Three wheel revolution’ mentioning an interview with the social entrepreneur based in Patna inspired them to know more about him. Abhimanyu Manoj, a student of the school who just completed his Plus two exams, messaged him via Facebook whether the students could meet him. Mr Alam contacted them and visited the school on December 2 last year. “He interacted with us. He invited us to visit the ‘Samman foundation’. We are looking forward to the experience,” Abhimanyu Manoj, among the students who will visit ‘Samman foundation’, said.
