Hyderabad: The Telangana state government will be spending nearly Rs 2 crore to set up India’s largest national flag on the tallest mast at Sanjeevaiah Park alongside the Hussainsagar.
Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao will unveil the flag on June 2, second anniversary of the state’s formation. The government has sanctioned Rs 1.96 crore for the project. The Rs 1.32 crore contract to instal the flag has been awarded to the Kolkata-based Skipper Construction Company. The rest of the money will be spent on civil works.
For now, the 66-feet by 99-feet flag which stands on a 293-feet mast at Ranchi holds the record. The CM has directed officials to set up a taller pole than the one at Ranchi, at 303 feet. The number (3+3) adds to Mr Rao’s lucky number six.
The responsibility of supervising the works has been entrusted to the roads and buildings department.
R&B principal secretary Sunil Sharma said, “There are four components in this project. The major work is construction of the 303-feet mast, and the other components include construction of the pillar base and other civil works. We are aiming to complete the project in two weeks.”
