Thiruvananthapuram: Thiruvananthapuram Corporation will write to the Kerala Coastal Zone Management Authority (KCZMA) to allow 36 PMAY beneficiaries to construct houses in the Coastal Regulation Zone. The decision was taken at the building adalat held on Monday. All 32 beneficiaries belonged to Thiruvallam ward. Nedumom Mohanan, the ward councilor said, “The beneficiaries who came today owned just one or two cents in areas like Edayar, Panathura and Lanka, in Thiruvallam ward. It is not that these areas don’t have any house . Edayar already has more than 300 houses in the CRZ, at least 80 of which were built by Thiruvananthapuram Corporation using BSUP funds. The decision will help these poor people,” he said.

He hoped the decision would set a precedent. “There are more than 100 beneficiaries who have submitted their PMAY, in Thiurvallam ward. The decision will benefit them too,” he said. There are beneficiaries in all 17 coastal wards in Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, if KCZMA gives sanction it will affect all of them. The 32 PMAY beneficiaries could process their application at the building adalat fast. There were 117 applicants of which 82 were present. 52 cases were settled. 25 applications were forwarded to the Regional Town Planner, and five to the Paddy and Wetland Local Level Monitoring Committee.
