J&K unrest takes toll on Kashmiri families, hundreds of weddings cancelled
Newspaper ads in violence-hit Kashmir have been filled with notifications of cancelled weddings.
Srinagar: As Kashmir Valley continue to witness protests and violence, all main cities and towns are under uninterrupted curfew and hundreds of wedding ceremonies which had been planned during this and early next week have been cancelled or deferred as a result.
Security restrictions continued in the valley for the fifth consecutive day on Wednesday, ruining wedding festivities for several families.
Srinagar newspapers appear each day with paid classified ads from hosts announcing the annulment of invitation cards issued for customary wazwan feasts and banquets which had been planned to mark these weddings.
Most of them, however, also announced that nikah ceremonies would be held with ‘sadagi’ or simplicity. The wedding season in Kashmir Valley begins post-Ramadan .
