Kerala University of Health Sciences to set up school on family health
The School of Family Health Studies will come up on Medical College campus, Kozhikode
KOCHI: The Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS) headquartered at Thrissur is proceeding to set up a unique School of Family Health Studies on 50 cents on the Kozhikode Government Medical College campus. This institution, first of its kind in India, focusing on research to be set up at a cost of Rs 5 crore will have MPhil and PhD courses with an intake of 15-20 students each and will create sustainable models for being presented before the State for action.
“Family is the ideal micro unit for targeting social schemes. A unique identification number has to be generated for each one. All the details about the members of the unit can be identified by any official or people’s representative at the click of a mouse using the ID number.
“The school will first work on a pilot project in a panchayat and present the same before the government for action,” said Dr M.K.C Nair, Vice-Chancellor of KUHS. “Local bodies have crucial role in identifying the families that need social protection and the key persons in this task are the panchayat member, the Asha and Anganwadi workers. “The school to be set up will give periodic training to local body representatives and Asha and Anganwadi workers also,” said Dr M.K.C Nair.
