Chennai: A woman, who sold her newborn baby boy a month ago to make ends meet, got her baby back on Friday after her estranged husband reunited with her.

The woman preferred a complaint with Thiruvottiyur police stating that she had given away her baby boy for Rs 85,000. Cops traced the woman who purchased the baby and reunited the baby with its biological mother.

Nithya, resident of Somasundaram Street, Thiruvottiyur, gave birth to a boy in a private hospital in Sathiyamoorthy Nagar in Thiruvottiyur. While she was in the clinic as an expecting mother she met Latha who was there for fertility treatment. Nithya narrated to Latha her tale of woes on as to how her husband had ditched her. Nithya also managed to convince Latha that she would give the boy baby to her if she was willing to give her Rs 1 lakh in exchange.

The deal worked out and the baby changed hands soon after its birth. Nithya already had a 5-year-old kid from her marriage with Jayaram, which took place about 6 years ago. Trouble started when Jayaram, who had ditched her eight months ago, returned home last week. Jayaram learnt that the baby had been sold and he insisted on getting their boy back.

The couple approached Latha who refused to part with the child. Subsequently, the couple approached the Thiruvottiyur police who summoned Latha for interrogation. During the interrogation, Latha refused to part with the baby since she grew attached to it. The cops convinced the woman and got the baby back and reunited it with its biological mother.

Sources said no case had been registered yet. Cops indicated that they would book a case for selling the baby and would allow law to take it course in this case.
