KTR lays foundation for Nizam College boys hostel
Hyderabad: Even as MA&UD minister K.T. Rama Rao was laying the foundation for the boys hostel block at Nizam College here on Saturday, alumni of the 136-year-old institution launched a massive social media campaign decrying that the hostel would take away the north east part of the cricket ground in the campus.
Many of those who posted their criticism, included past students, who had earned international glory with their exploits. They said many of them had sentimental attachment to the ground, whose protection was the responsibility of the state government.
Among the cricket icons and celebrities that the college has produced over the years include M.L. Jaisimha, Syed Abid Ali, Mohammad Azharuddin, N. Kiran Kumar Reddy and C.V. Anand.
Meanwhile, even though Rama Rao made it clear that the ground will not be affected by the hostel building, the alumni posted pictures of the part of the cricket ground that will be occupied by the proposed new structure.
