Visakhapatnam: A low pressure area is likely to form over Northwest and adjoining west central Bay of Bengal during the next 24 hours, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said in its forecast for Andhra Pradesh.

The low pressure area is likely to become more marked and move west-northwestwards across south Odisha and North Andhra Pradesh coast. It is likely to bring heavy rains to the state, especially the coastal districts, from Wednesday onwards.

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for all the coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh, including Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Srikakulam, East Godavari, West Godavari, and Krishna.

The monsoon has been very active in most parts of Andhra Pradesh this year, and has almost made up for the August deficit rainfall. During the last 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Tuesday, Palakonda received 6.8 centimeters (cm) of rainfall, Jiyyammavalasa 6.5 cm, Narasapuram 5.4 cm, Velairpad 4 cm, Veeraghattam 3.9 cm, Chintoor 3.3 cm, Anakapalle 3.3 cm, and Visakhapatnam 3 cm.
