Thiruvananthapuram: The Thiruvananthapuram medical college has decided to  start M.Ch course in reproductive medicine.  At present, no government medical college  in the country has  such a course.  Only two private colleges have approval for the course from the medical council now. Health minister K.K. Shylaja said that the state government had  sanctioned the additional posts needed for starting the course.  These are the posts of assistant professor and  associate professor  apart from the existing post of assistant professor.

The course will be linked to the fertility clinic functioning in SAT hospital under the medical college, which provides fertility treatment at  affordable cost. This  is  part of a plan to convert  the medical college into a centre for excellence, Ms Shylaja said. Steps have been initiated to start a paediatric cardiology unit at the SAT hospital where 13 new posts had been sanctioned earlier, Ms Shylaja said.
