Sabarna Anand case: Suicide or murder? Cops investigating
Cigarette stubs, broken mug found.
Chennai: A day after Sabarna Anand, 29-year-old cinema and television actor, was found dead in her apartment in Maduravoyal, investigators are yet to term it a case of suicide.
“It is a death which is suspicious in nature. We can’t say it was a certain suicide. There were a broken coffee mug and an ashtray full of cigarette stubs. Her parents claim that she doesn’t smoke,” police sources said. She was found dead with her wrist slashed. The door was not locked and her body was in a highly decomposed state.
On Saturday her family said that she was in a state of depression for some time. Her father, mother and brother stayed in Virugambakkam. She had left them a year ago seeking privacy and started staying alone in the Maduravoyal flat.
The actor had featured in few TV series, including Sondha Bandham and Pasamalar and had acted in movies including Vishal starrer Poojai. She was a VJ and hosted several shows including Puthu Kavithai in the past. But of late she was struggling to find roles, industry sources said.
Police said she might have died at least on Tuesday. Police recovered her body after her neighbours complained of foul stench emanating from her flat.
Sabarna was a native of Coimbatore and moved to Chennai with her parents Anand Kumar and Pushpa, who were living in a different house with their college going son Aneesh. It is still unclear whether she killed herself or was murdered. “There was no forced entry,” the police said.
A police officer, attributing to the doctors who performed the autopsy on the actor’s body, said that her death looked more like suicide. “She had suffered four injuries on her wrist. One of the injuries was deep and she died due to excessive blood loss.”
