Demonetisation: Bank glass door breaks in melee at Vavvakavu

Over 200 customers had formed a long queue outside the branch.

Alappuzha: One person was injured when the glass door of the SBT branch at Vavvakavu, near Oachira, broke on Saturday following the huge rush of customers to exchange currency notes in the wake of the demonetisation of 500 and 1,000 rupee notes. The incident happened in the afternoon after the bank decided to down the shutters when the crowd became unmanageable. 

Over  200 customers had formed a long queue outside the branch.   A man was carried to the Oachira police station with bleeding  arms. However, he was let off after it was found that the glass broke due to the rush, said the police.  The police did not receive any complaints about the incident.
