Kottayam: Former chief minister Oommen Chandy has  demanded an investigation into the big banking transactions that took place  and the offers given by business groups before the demonetisation announced by the central government. He told reporters here  that the dramatic announcement made  by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to demonetise 1,000 and 500 rupee currency notes without conducting a study on the probable consequences was an offence which could not be pardoned.

Mr Chandy asked the state government to open control rooms in every district taking into account the emergency situation faced by the people. “The central government decided to demonetise the currency notes without any preparations. In this context, the state government should take strong actions in  the health and food sector. None should suffer without getting treatment and  food,” Mr Chandy said.
