A Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) jawan lost his life, while another sustained injuries in a blast orchestrated by Maoists in the Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh, as reported on Wednesday by the police.

The incident unfolded at approximately 11 am in the Aamdai Ghati iron ore mine area, falling within the jurisdiction of the Chhote Dongar police station, where security personnel were engaged in an area domination operation, according to a statement by a senior police official cited by news agency PTI.

"Maoists triggered an IED blast and opened firing on the patrolling team that led to an encounter between the two sides," he explained.

Constable Kamlesh Sahu, a member of the CAF's 9th battalion, succumbed to injuries sustained during the incident. Meanwhile, another constable, Vinay Kumar Sahu, suffered minor injuries, the official added.

Hailing from the Janjgir-Champa district of the state, the deceased jawan's body was transferred to a local hospital, while the injured constable is currently undergoing treatment. A joint search operation, involving the Indo Tibetan Border Police and District Reserve Guard, is actively in progress in the area, the official further mentioned.

This tragic event follows a similar incident earlier in the year when ten security personnel and a driver lost their lives in an improvised explosive device blast, allegedly carried out by Maoists in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada district.
