Tamil Nadu: UII company bags CM health insurance scheme
The Scheme will be implemented every year with an annual budget of Rs 1,270 crore.
CHENNAI: United India Insurance (UII) Company that quoted the lowest annual premium of Rs 699/- per family has been selected to implement the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme (CMCHIS) scheme for four years in Tamil Nadu from January 11, 2017.
In the Governor’s address to the Legislative Assembly on June 16, 2016, it was announced that the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme will be continued. Consequently many Public Sector Insurance companies were called for selection through open tender on November 17, 2016, and UII bagged the opportunity.

As per the press note issued by DIPR in Chennai, the salient features of CMCHIS include, increase in sum insured for specialized procedures from Rs.1.5 lakh to 2 lakh per annum with inclusion of 312 new procedures that support better health care.
This also covers migrants, like construction laborers residing for more than six months will be included through proper procedure by Labor department. Orphans as defined by the State Government will also be covered under this scheme.
Beneficiaries could get treated free of cost for approved procedures in the empanelled hospitals by producing smart card / E-card and it will be validated at hospitals.
Suitable mechanism will soon be developed after consulting TNeGA (Tamilnadu e-Governance agency) to link Insurance card with Aadhar and the membership details will be uploaded in the website for transparency.
